Pain, chronic or acute can be caused by injury, surgey or a medical condition which can have an effect on our health. Pain is a normal part of life, however in some cases it can manifest into chronic pain.

Acute pain

Begins suddenly, the nervous system sends pain signalsindicating a warning of disease or a threat to the body. It may be short lived, lasting moments or it maybe severe, lasting weeks or months. Normally acute pain doesnt last longer than 6 months once the underlaying cause has been identifed and treated, if left untreated it can lead to chronic pain

Chronic Pain

Persists even after the problem has been treated, the nervous system continues to send pain signals for weeks, months and in some cases years. Chronic pain can orginate from trauma, injury or infection, in some intances it's not attributed to previous injury or health issue

When pain lasts longer than reasonably expected, it is very important to consult your healtcare provider so an acurate diagnisis can be made.

There is a growing body of evidence suggesting acupuncture has a positive effect on pain. A study was conducted between January and August 2010 at the Emergency Department of the Northen Hospital in Epping, Melbourne. Research indicated, by adding acupuncture to convential biomedical care, resulted in better patient medical outcome.
